The PDP government took several initiatives in preserving and promoting our tangible and intangible cultures. In the past five years, the construction of the two new dzongs in Pemagatshel and Sarpang was started. The Wangduephodrang and Drukgyel Dzongs are under reconstruction and about 56% of the overall reconstruction works for Wangduephodrang Dzong has been completed. Two of the seven phases of the reconstruction of Drukgyel Dzong are completed. Further, major renovation works for Trashigang Dzong, Gasa Dzong, Lhuentse Dzong, Paro Rinpung and Ta Dzong, Trashiyangtse Dzong were initiated and completed.
The PDP government also completed the construction of the Tango Buddhist College and a Hindu Temple in Samtse. In addition, three Hindu temples are currently under construction in Thimphu and Gelephu.
Another big achievement is the renovation of and installation of nangzhung in 2,000 chortens across the country. Retired soldiers also built special chortens in every Dzongkhag on Royal Command.
